PRO 7 receives 300 batons from South Korea

JEDI COPS: The Government of South Korea and a group of Korean businessmen donate 300 reflectorized batons that look like lightsabers of Jedis to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019. Aside from being reflectorized, the batons also have a flashlight feature, making them useful at night. Of the 300, 100 will go to the police force of Lapu-Lapu City, where there is a big population of South Koreans. The South Koreans also donated 33 motorcycles to PRO 7 (represented here by Brig. Gen. THE South Korean Government has donated 300 plastic batons to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.

Each baton glows, and this can be used by police officers manning the traffic at night.

The PRO 7 is also set to receive 33 motorcycles from the South Korean Government, said PRO 7 Director Debold Sinas.

Sinas said 100 batons and all the motorcycles will go to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO).

Asked to explain why the LCPO will receive majority of the donations, Sinas said several Korean nationals are residing in Lapu-Lapu City, and the South Korean Government asked him to prioritize the city.

The police official said the batons could not be used in neutralizing a criminal as these are made of plastic materials.

The rest of the batons will be given to the Cebu City Police Office, Mandaue City Police Office, Talisay City Police Station and Consolacion Police Station as these places have to deal with traffic. Several Korean nationals are living in these areas, too.

A Korean official told Sinas that his government’s recent donation showed that his government and the police in the Philippines have good relations. (from AYB of Superbalita Cebu/KAL)
