FOLLOWING the series of whipping incidents in Sasa, Davao City victimizing several individuals, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has observed peaceful nights and monitored fewer minors on the streets.

DCPO Director Alexander Tagum said Thursday, October 3, that reports on alleged cases of assault in Sasa, Davao City have been the subject of their series of operations, and he has already directed the station commander in the area to monitor and step up measures to address these crimes.

"So far sa monitoring, nakakagulat but for the past several nights, pati 'yong report sa akin kaninang umaga na tactical operations center eh napakatahimik na ng urban communities in Davao City," Tagum said.

He said the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao has sent about 100 police forces to augment DCPO in clearing the urban communities within downtown areas to prevent incidents like gang riots.

"I believe that is also the result of the double effort sa local police nga i-secure ug i-monitor ang activities sa barangay because likely, naka-deploy na ang mga intelligence operatives natin sa mga urban communities in Davao City. In a way, that also helps na makita siguro sa mga gang na maraming police na nakalatag sa downtown area, medyo tumatahimik na sila ngayon," Tagum said.

Meanwhile, PRO-Davao Director Marcelo Morales said an intensified Oplan Tambay will be implemented to address the alleged whipping of bystanders by so-called "Bunal Group." They will conduct roving patrol around Davao City during the wee hours.

"We will implement the city ordinance dito upang masugpo, including na dito yong mga Bunal Squad na ma-prevent natin yan dahil yong mga pulis natin ay lalabas every night. I-identify nila yong mga crime prone areas kung saan maraming mga riots ng mga kabataan," he said.

It will be a continuous operation that includes the enforcement of search warrants, illegal drug operations, apprehension of vehicles without registration, implementation of local ordinances like liquor ban and curfew, among others.
