FOOTBALL rivals, Rosevale School of West 1 District and Corpus Christi School of the South District, split the football titles in contrasting fashion of the Cagayan de Oro City Division meet held Sunday at the Westridge Sports Park pitch in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Corpus Christi School's secondary boys team of Marc Racines needed a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in the regulation, before escaping past the stubborn Rosevale Comets, 4-2.

Meanwhile, the Rosevale Elementary boys team beefed up by booters from West City Central School showed off their might to whip the Corpus Christi Boys fronted by the Xavier University Grade School boys in Macasandig, 4-0.

The Corpus secondary boys team was accurate from the spot, scoring four goals with Geo Tacandong, Joshua Montesino, Donn Ebuña and MJ Hojas hitting their target.

Only Lyle Dy and Gedion Amora found the back of the net for the Rosevale giving Corpus their third straight CDO Division Meet's secondary boys title.

South District designated penalty shootout goalkeeper from St. Mary's School Eugene Areola, played a vital role, saving shots from Aaron Magadan and John Gementiza.

The Corpus secondary boys leaned to an own goal off a deflection from Jordan Calingin to lead by one goal, 1-0 at halftime.

Calingin, a reinforcement from Xavier University High School, cleared the ball to their own net after a free kick from the left flank.

Corpus then added another goal when Jesse Bajarla unleashed a booming shot at the right side that caught Rosevale goalie Jomar Manabilang off- guarded.

However, Rosevale refused to give up as coach Mario Sumampong made a brilliant substitution sending in forward Terrence Mayne to replace Enrico Gue at the right wing. Mayne responded immediately as he set up midfielder Lyle 'The Smiling Maestro Dy' for the first goal.

Mayne then completed his sterling performance with a goal from point blank range after indirect free kick by defender Aaron Magadan just outside the penalty box at the right side.

Rosevale earned the indirect free kick after winger RJ Caintec was fouled by Corpus Christi defender Ino Butaslac.

"It was a nice match, we had our chances but we didn't capitalize on it. Decision making was the problem in the 2nd half giving fouls that caused us the goals," said coach Marc Racines after the match.

In contrast, Rosevale School did not allow Corpus Christi to breathe some air in the Elementary division championship game, dominating the match from start to finish.

The Rosevale boys scored four goals, three of them in the first half, to advance to the regionals in Tubod, Lanao del Norte this coming December.

Rashid Sabillo of West City Central School, and Gio Gumban, Ethan Vistan and Liam Gabor of Rosevale, scored one goal each to complete the rout of the South boys.
