Freed thief accused of kidnapping

A MAN is under police custody over suspicion of kidnapping a nine-year-old girl in Zayas, Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

Police identified the suspect as Nicholson Penaso, 32, a resident of Muco, Zone 6, Barangay Carmen.

Penaso allegedly brought the nine-year-old girl forcibly with him by riding a vehicle from a mall to a place she did not know about.

Witnesses saw the girl constantly crying while inside a motorela.

They said the girl told her about her situation, prompting them to call for help.

Major Ian Borinaga, Police Station 4 chief, said they will press kidnapping charges against the suspect.

"Ang ingon sa suspect, pag makakita siya og bata tabangan niya kay maluoy siya sa bata. Bakak kayo. Naa ba diay tabangan nimo pero dalhon nimo sa laing lugar?" Borinaga said.

Police Chief Master Sergeant (PCMS) Zona Fabria said the victim went to a bookstore in a mall to buy a book when the suspect approached her, inviting her to look for a cheaper book in another store.

But instead of going to the bookstore, the suspect instead brought her to an internet cafe and prodded the victim to add him on Facebook.

Constant prodding later led the victim being forced by the suspect into a motorela and reached Zayas where witnesses saw the victim crying.

But Fabria said the girl, although traumatized, was unharmed.

The police chief also disclosed that Penaso just went out of Lumbia City Jail for theft.
