LGU mourns death of traffic enforcer

THE City Government of San Fernando has expressed sorrow over the sudden death of a traffic enforcer who was hit by a truck while performing his duty Wednesday morning, October 2, 2019.

The victim identified as Mark Jun Rodriguez was killed on the spot after he was hit by a 10-wheeler truck he was chasing from Lazatin junction in Barangay Sto. Niño to Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay San Jose.

City Traffic Management Division head Danilo Bautista said the suspect identified as Johnny Cole was flagged down by Rodriguez for passing by the Lazatin Flyover, where trucks and heavy vehicles are prohibited.

In a statement, the local government recognized Rodriguez's service to the city as a motorcycle patrol man under the City Public Order and Coordinating Office for five years.

The statement was also posted on the City Public Information Office Facebook Page with a caption, "#SaludoAngMgaFernandinoSaIyoMark (Fernandinos salute you, Mark)."

Mayor Edwin Santiago has instructed the City Legal Office to monitor the case of the suspect, now charged with murder case, through the help of the Philippine National Police.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office is set to extend assistance to Rodriguez's family.

Meanwhile, the City Government asked the public to stop posting Rodriguez' photographs taken during the accident in respect to his family.
