3 suspected rebels arrested in Northern Samar

SOLDIERS belonging to the 20th Infantry Battalion (IB) arrested on Thursday, October 3, three suspected members of a communist group in Las Navas, Northern Samar.

Second Lieutenant Adrian Rolando Catil of 20th IB identified the arrested persons as Anton Manoso, alias "Tito," unit militia member; Edwin Picson, alias "Bunay," unit militia member, both residents of Catubig, Northern Samar; and Rey Christian Sabado, alias "Nadz/Ali," sectoral/deputy political instructor SRC Emporium and a resident of Taytay, Rizal.

The Army said that while conducting combat operation around 10 a.m. Thursday along Barangay San Jorge in Las Navas town, the soldiers heard a noise coming from a group of male persons.

The soldiers immediately scattered to hide. They then arrested the suspected rebels after seeing one of them carrying a firearm.

The soldiers recovered an Ingram caliber 9mm sub-machine gun loaded with 17 live ammunition from Manoso; one unit caliber .45 pistol loaded with seven live ammunition from Picson; and one live hand grenade from Sabado.

The arrested persons and confiscated items were brought to Las Navas Municipal Police Station for documentation and were subsequently turned over to Northern Samar Provincial Police Office headquarters for proper disposition. (SunStar Philippines)
