Salute to the teachers

BEING a teacher is a one-of-a-kind profession as it requires knowledge, parenting wisdom, skills, passion, and resiliency, and that is what teachers of Leon Garcia Sr. Elementary School in Bangkal, Davao City displayed during their recent struggle.

Last August, part of Davao City was inundated by flood that affected hundreds of residences and establishments.

Leon Garcia Sr. Elementary School was one of the most affected schools in the district.

Hundreds of books, reading materials, personal laptops, printers, and flat screen televisions of the teachers were damaged by the flood.

With this, the school's teachers devoted their time and energy to clean their school of mud and to save what was left of their once colorful classrooms. This they did for one whole week.

With a little help from some of their students, teachers managed to restore their classrooms.

Despite the loss of some of their personal belongings, they have continued to stand up from the unfortunate events. Despite the hardships, they were still able to wear a smile on their faces.

The level of dedication displayed by the teachers caught my attention as some of them are also flood victims themselves who also need to clean their homes.

Indeed, teaching is more than just a profession as it is anchored on a deeper sense of responsibility in molding the youth through academics and character-building to be a part of nation building.

Truly, teaching is the mother of all profession.

Salute to the teachers, salute to your professionalism, salute to your undying passion.
