9 ‘ninja cops’ dismissed

NINE alleged “ninja cops” in Central Visayas who were proven to be drug users were dismissed from the service by the Police Regional Office 7.

The police officers were charged with administrative complaints by the Regional Internal Affairs Service 7, which is also hearing complaints from around 10 police officers.

Sinas admitted that there were “ninja cops” who recycled seized contraband or used illegal drugs. These were the reasons that he conducted surprise drug tests on his personnel.

Dismissed from police service, according to Sinas, were Police Corporal Jose Marri Garcia, Police Patrolman Marlo Laborte, Police Staff Sergeant Joffrey Mulat, Police Patrolman Jayrome Solano, Patrolman Frances Maucesa, Corporal Gilfredo Carungay, Patrolman Gregy Gica, Patrolman Joseph Tabo-tabo and Police Master Sergeant Darwin Gonzales.

An official from the Regional Internal Affairs Service (Rias) 7, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Superbalita Cebu the decision to dismiss the police officers from the service was made after their motions for reconsideration were dismissed.

The police official said Camp Crame and Sinas ordered the Rias 7 to fast-track the investigation on the alleged erring officials.

Sinas said there are still “ninja cops” in the region, but there are few of them. Those officers who recycled and sold contraband after a drug bust are labeled as the “ninja cops.”

The PRO 7 has not stopped its monitoring on personnel who are suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade, according to Sinas.

Sinas said they are monitoring police officers who went absent without filing an official leave. (from AYB of Superbalita Cebu/GGM)
