Pork products from Luzon sold in Talisay

THE Talisay City Veterinary Office has warned meat sellers about pork products they sell to their customers.

Local officials have discovered that some establishments in the city are selling pork products from Luzon.

Members of the Provincial Anti-African Swine Fever (ASF) Task Force and meat inspectors from Talisay City’s Livestock and Poultry Center conducted a surprise inspection in all supermarkets and wet markets in the city.

Aside from supermarkets, the task force also visited the Tabunok Public Market and meatshops in Barangays Tabunok and Bulacao.

During the inspection, the task force found that some establishments were still selling pork products from Luzon.

The task force advised owners of the establishments to pull out the pork products and return these.

Most of the pork-related products that were recommended by the task force to be pulled out are hot dogs, tocino and canned goods, said Dr. Mary Thessa Loraine Alo, Talisay City veterinarian.

The products mentioned are subject to the executive order issued by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on the 100-day ban of pork products from Luzon following the outbreak of ASF in Rizal and Bulacan last month.

Producers of pork-related products from Luzon must be able to provide complete documentation before their products can be sold in Cebu.

Alo said they already gave those caught selling pork-related products from Luzon at least 10 days to pull out the products.

If they refuse, the task force will be forced to confiscate and get rid of the products. (from FMD of Superbalita Cebu/JKV)
