MOTHERS who shop with their mini-mes can be fun to look at. But, are these moms enjoying the trip to the department store?
Admittedly, going out to shop with and for our little girls can be challenging at times. And the experience could even get trickier if they insist on buying the ones that caught their attention.
As moms, we already have an idea as to what our little ones would like to wear. However, we may still need to be familiar with some helpful tips when choosing clothes for them.
1. The very first thing we could do is to get them involved in the entire process. Personally, I let my six-year-old daughter pick the clothes she likes and then I just check for several things once she turns over those to me.
2. The choices must be comfortable and functional. While scrutinizing every piece she hands over, I have several questions in mind. Are they made of comfortable materials? Would they be comfortable to wear? Are the designs practical? Does the store have the right size for her?
When the answer even to just one of these questions is a clear “no,” that is the time I negotiate with her. I present to her several options which I know she would love as well.
3. Stock on tutus, leggings, basic tees (with short and long sleeves), tunic dresses, and cardigans. Tutus seem impractical to buy, however, little girls love them! Thus, we can never delete them from our shopping list. Just make sure to opt for the well-sewn ones to avoid getting damaged easily.
In the meantime, the other clothing ideas I have cited are practical pieces which our daughters can wear anytime.
4. Include party dresses and rainproof essentials in the cabinet. Party dresses can be expensive and too much to use during regular days. Nevertheless, we still need to store one or two of them for special occasions. We cannot have too many because our little girls could outgrow them right away. Meanwhile, we can let them wear different accessories to give the dress a fresh look.
On the other hand, rainproof essentials like a coat or jacket must be stored in the cabinet, too, should we need them to keep our mini-mes warm.
5. Allow them to be creative. There could be pieces that we think would not go well together. This concept, though, must not limit our little fashionistas’ creativity.
This color and design may seem “off” for us when paired with that print and cut. However, those can still look perfect when our daughters are the ones wearing them. In short, they must be encouraged to mix and match rather than being told to follow our own fashion style.
Parenting also means that we find time to enjoy quality bonding moments with them. Therefore, shopping with our kids can be one of the best ways to make them feel how much they are loved and valued.
