AFTER regaining ownership of some Capitol-owned properties and reviving flagship programs, the first 100 days of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has been “eventful.”

Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, marks the first 100 days in public office for officials who assumed office at noon of June 30, 2019.

“It’s too short a time to assess the state of the province for which I am not fully responsible for the state the province is in since I have not even served for one year. I will render a report because I believe that what I’ve done in 100 days will be an indication of how we will be going in the next three years,” Garcia said.

Right after assuming the governorship, Garcia issued four memorandum circulars suspending all quarry permits, recalling some Province-owned vehicles and stopping all construction work undertaken by the Province.

She also issued Executive Order 1 to immediately stop and permanently discontinue all works related to the P1.3-billion Provincial Resource Center at the Capitol compound.

Garcia considered it as one of her administration’s “major accomplishments” in her first 100 days as governor.

“We stopped the construction of the 20-story Provincial Resource Center, which would have put the Province in debt of P1.5 billion and would have been constructed in violation of the National Cultural Heritage Act, this being a declared a national heritage site,” she said.

Regaining ownership of prime lots on Salinas Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City and five access roads to the Cebu IT Park were also seen as highlights of her first 100 days.

“This truly has the most impact to Cebuanos because this is, after all, the assets of the Province, which belongs to the to the constituents,” Garcia said. (RTF)
