Batch 2011, 2013 pick up wins in USC Alumni league

THE 2011 Sharks and the 2013 District ended their elimination round on high notes as they logged in victories over their respective opponents in Division 3 of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference 2019 Cebu City Mayor’s Cup at the USC North Campus gym on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

The Sharks waylaid the 2009 Legacy, 61-45, as point guard Dave Guardiario put on a phenomenal performance of 21 points, three rebounds and five assists.

Not to be outdone, the District bested the 2015 Samurais, 54-47, with King Osabel ruling over his defenders with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The two teams finished the elimination round on top of their division after finishing with identical 5-1 win-loss records.

Meanwhile, in Division 2, the 2003 Stallions also nabbed a share of first place with a 53-50 win over the 2000 Millennium Bugs. Miguel Pera sizzled from the field and ended up with a near double-double of 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocks to give the Stallions its fifth win in six games.

The 2004 Rebels also edged the 2001 Builders, 40-37, thanks to William Lazo’s 17 points.

Over in Division 1, the 1998 Sipat picked up their fourth win in six games with a 62-48 drubbing of the 1996 Chubbies. Criz Matunog was the main man for Batch 1998 as he tallied 22 points and four rebounds.

The 1993 Dragons also snatched a 47-42 win over the 1994 Bulldogs, with skilled big man Bong Eleazar having a monster of a ballgame with 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots to help his team improve to 3-4.

In the Seniors division, the 1986 Siargao stretched its winning streak to five games after beating the 1987 Bros, 61-46. Arturo Mata led the team with a complete stat-line of 27 points, four rebounds, five assists and five steals.

The 1990 Titans came away with a 71-58 win over the 1982 Golden Warriors, while the 1985 Legends put down the Bai 1991, 40-34. (SunStar Cebu)
