Green Lancers to face Panthers on October 8

THE three-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers will be trying to do a better job of keeping their cool this time around when they face off against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Although the Green Lancers came away with a convincing 102-82 win over the Panthers in their first round match-up, the win was not without cost as veterans Gileant Delator and Jiesel Tarrosa were thrown out of the game for incurring a technical and an unsportsmanlike foul each.

Ironically, the two players would be serving their one-game suspensions in the game against USPF.

“I just told them to stay focused and keep their cool in the game,” said UV head coach Gary Cortes, whose Lancers have remained on top of the league with a 5-1 (win-loss) record.

On the other hand, USPF will try to atone for its 77-61 loss at the hands of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, a game that American wingman Sameen Swint missed because of uniform issues.

That loss proved to be costly as it dropped the Panthers down to 3-4.

In the high school division, the UV Baby Lancers seeks to get back on the winning track when they face off against the reeling Cebu Institute of Technology-University Baby Wildcats. UV suffered a 67-61 loss to Don Bosco last Sunday. (SunStar Cebu)
