18-story Savoy Hotel in Mactan Newtown to open in November

BILLIONAIRE Andrew Tan’s Megaworld Corp. announced it will open the 18-story Savoy Hotel Mactan in its 30-hectare Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City in November 2019.

“Savoy Hotel Mactan is just 15 minutes away from the airport, which makes it a perfect choice for business travelers,” said Raymundo Melendres, managing director at Megaworld Hotels.

The interiors of the P1.7 billion hotel are designed by world-renowned Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the same firm that designed Marina Bay Sands and Fullerton Hotel in Singapore, as well as Shangri-La Dubai and St. Regis Abu Dhabi in the United Arab of Emirates.

The hotel will offer a total of 547 rooms, targeting mostly business travelers and family vacationers because of its close accessibility to resorts around Lapu-Lapu and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Savoy is the first hotel development to open at the company’s mixed-use complex, which will also host more hotels in the future.

“Its location also allows one to experience the beach and the township at the same time, where restaurants, cafes, supermarket, spa and other retail shops are just within easy reach,” Melendres said.

The hotel offers super and deluxe rooms, deluxe premier and junior suites—all fully equipped with essential amenities.

The hotel also has a wide range of function and meeting rooms; and food and beverage outlets such as the Savoy Café, Lobby Café, Zabana Bar, Pool Bar and the Patio.

Savoy Mactan is the third hotel under Megaworld’s Savoy brand, which is also present in Boracay Newcoast and Newport City in Pasay City.

Megaworld Hotels has already opened other four homegrown brands including Richmonde Hotels, Belmont Hotels, Twin Lakes Hotel and Hotel Lucky Chinatown, with around 3,200 hotel rooms.

During the first quarter this year, Megaworld’s hotel business became its fastest growing segment, soaring 56 percent to P574 million compared to last year’s P368 million.

Real estate consultancy firm Santos Knight Frank is projecting that more than 5,000 new hotel rooms will open in Cebu in the next five years, with Mactan sustaining as a hotspot for hotel investments.

In the first half of 2019, Mactan accounted for about 30 percent of Metro Cebu’s current hotel room supply of over 12,400, the global realtor reported in its latest research note.

It cited Megaworld, Ayala Land and Udenna Group will contribute about half of the total upcoming hotel supply in the next three years, saying the foreseen strong demand has pushed developers to offer new supply.

Aside from Savoy, four more luxury hotels, including Belmont, will open in Mactan Newtown, the consultancy company said.
