2 CMO teams in 3X3 semis

THE City Mayor's Office (CMO) teams A and B will clash against the City Health Office (CHO) and City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), respectively, in City Hall Employees Sports Festival women's 3X3 basketball crossover semifinals set Tuesday, October 8, at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Game time for the first semifinal game is at 8 a.m.

CMO-A swept all its six games in the elimination, while CMO-B was also unbeaten after five outings. CSSDO, for its part, was second in division A.

The battle between CSSDO and CMO-B is expected to be tough since both teams are powered by former varsity players who are currently working with the city government of Davao. CMO-B's Rodan Juniore Lim of the City Anti-Drug and Abuse Counsel was a former varsity player of Adamson University in Manila. Also in the team are Mary Joy Matias and Renah Vidamo of the Sports and Development Division with Virginia Gonzales and AJ Moratin.

CSSDO sports coordinator Venessa Intention, meanwhile, said they lacked time to practice unlike other teams since their players also work during Saturdays and Sundays to provide social services to calamity victims.

CSSDO will lean on Sofia Cesarda, a psychologist, and Vanessa Algabre, a nurse. Both of them were former San Pedro College players.

"We will just give our best," Intention said.

Winners will advance to the finals, while the losers will battle for third. At stake is P20,000 for the champion, P15,000 for the runner-up and P8,000 for the third placer.

CMO-A is composed of Carla Echavia, Sheryl Limpag, Shayne Puson Roxianne Boltiador and Karen delos Santos.

In men's basketball, the City Engineer's Office (CEO) will try to reclaim the title it lost to the City Administrator's Office in 2018.

The Engineers grabbed a finals berth after the City Civil Registrar's Office quit the game with five minutes left in the fourth quarter of their semis match last week.

A CMO-A win in women's 3X3 could improve the team's overall rank as it is currently shared the third spot with CHO and the City Assessor's Office with similar 21 points.

Sangguniang Panlungsod led with 28 points so far while City Treasurer's Office was second. (Seth delos Reyes/SDD-CMO)
