PRAYERS for the protection of Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong were offered over the weekend amid threats to his life.

United in prayer, members of the Baguio Benguet Ecumenical Group with the different interfaith groups and community gathered at the Malcolm Square for the "Ecumenical Prayer Rally for Truth and Faith," which ended with a candle lighting ceremony attended by Magalong and his family.

Magalong admitted receiving threats after his appearance in the Senate for his expose on Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Oscar Albayalde and ninja cops.

He said phone calls consist of cursing and threats of a hitman out to target him.

"Minsan may tatawag lang sa 'kin para murahin ako," he said, adding that friends have also informed him of a hitman named "Rommel," who has been tapped to assassinate him.

On Sunday night, October 6, church leaders from Islam, Hindu and the Christian denominations led the prayers for Magalong.

The mayor thanked the religious sector for the prayers for guidance and

protection that he and his family need. He said this will help and inspire him to carry on the fight for what is right and for the truth.

Magalong said he hopes he will not be called back to the Senate.

"Sana wala na. Kung may development sa investigation ng Senate hearing, then we might be forced to go back to the hearing or if there are new revelation, we will probably be compelled. I believe lahat naman nasabi ko na and I need to focus my attention in Baguio City," Magalong said.

He also asked for understanding on the tightening of security at the Baguio City Hall which may bring inconveniences to residents and clients of the City Government. He assured that he would do everything to normalize the situation in due time.

Security was heightened at the city's seat of power since last week.
