NCCA, Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. bring ‘Buhay na Buhay’ in Bacolod

THE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) headed by its chairman, National Artist Virgilio Almario and the Office of the Deputy Speaker and Antique representative Loren Legarda, in partnership with the Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. holds the one of the Visayan stops of Buhay na Buhay Lecture Series with former NCCA chairman Prof. Felipe M. de Leon, Jr. on October 25, at the MM Auditorium B of University of St. La Salle (USLS)-Bacolod.

The lecture will be attended by students and teachers from different schools across the province, cultural workers, and tourism officers, the lecture will be commenced by Kabataang Silay Rondalla, followed by University of St. Lasalle Chorale. NCCA deputy executive director Marichu G. Tellano will deliver the rationale of the lecture.

The president and chancellor of USLS Bacolod Br. Joaquin Severino S. Martinez FSC, D.Min. and Negros Cultural Foundation Inc. president Lyn Gamboa will deliver special messages. There will also be special performances to be showcased by Jean Baptist Dance Company.

Prof. Felipe de Leon, Jr. will tackle Eight Living Filipino Subcultures namely Kultura ng Pagdidiwata which includes harmony with the deities, creative forces of nature and ancestral Spirits; Kultura ng Pag-uukir at Pag-uuma such as poetic mysticism and devotion to Islam; Kultura ng Pamamanata, devotion to the patron saint and village community; Kultura ng Pananahan or devotion to the home and family; Kultura ng Paglilining at Pangangatwiran, reflection and reasoning; Kultura ng Pag-aaliw or Culture of Entertainment or Sensations; Kultura ng Pamumuna at Pagtutol or Culture of Social Criticism, Concern, Protest; and Kultura ng Pagka-Filipino at Pagkabansa or Devotion to the Nation and Being Filipino.

Buhay na Buhay Lecture Series is an offshoot of the Buhay ba Buhay TV series, an eight-part special documentary series showcasing the Eight Living Filipino Subcultures with interesting narration and video documentation, alongside engaging discussions between Prof. Felipe M. de Leon, Jr. and Deputy Speaker and Antique Representative Loren Legarda, program host and NCCA’s Dangal ng Haraya Patron of Arts and Culture.
