Raid nets P51,000 illegal drugs in Baguio, Benguet

SOME P51,000 worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and marijuana dried leaves were seized from a high-value target drug personality in Baguio City Monday, October 7.

Anti-narcotic operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA–CAR) arrested Al Denver Wal Sayan, 33, high-value target drug personality and a resident of Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet after being served a warrant of arrest at the vicinity of Upper Session Road, Baguio City.

While searching his personal belongings, illegal drugs worth P51,000 of suspected shabu weighing close to 7.5 grams, marijuana-dried leaves worth P720 weighing six grams, and drug paraphernalia were discovered and confiscated.

Sayan was issued a warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court during the promulgation of sentence despite notice in relation to a charge of violation of R.A. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

It was on October 5, 2016 when Sayan was first arrested for possession of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, live ammunitions and one Caliber 38 revolver. He was released on bail pending trial.

Meanwhile, six drug personalities were collared by the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO–COR) over the past days in its anti-drug operations last week.

Three high-value targets were arrested in separate drug busts initiated by operatives of Buguias and Mankayan Municipal Police Station, Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Command (PMFC), Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) Benguet.

Florante Yong-en Fernandez Jr. was arrested at the parking lot of a gasoline station at Upper Abatan, Buguias, Benguet and confiscated from his possession three sachets of shabu and P1,000 cash.

Miller Delfin Ambros aka Delson was arrested at a videoke bar located at Bacoling Compound, Abatan, Buguias and seized from him were two sachets of suspected shabu and P1,000 cash.

Joven Ediong Plomen aka Paksi was arrested at Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet after one sachet of suspected shabu, P1,000 cash and a mobile phone was confiscated from his possession.

Meanwhile, three suspected drug couriers were arrested after they were flagged down in a checkpoint along the national road in Sitio Iyapan, Kabugao, Apayao in the evening of October 3.

The checkpoint operation was staged by operatives of Kabugao police in coordination with the PDEA.

Suspected drug couriers identified as Lymboy Alawin, 25, a resident of Atok, Flora, Apayao, Ebrahim Arrid Bartolome, 20, a resident of Poblacion West, Flora Apayao and Marvin Abong Baylon, 33 and a resident of Caloocan City were arrested during the operation.

Prior to their arrest, the operatives received information of an alleged blue vehicle transporting illegal drugs from Poblacion, Kabugao, Apayao.

A checkpoint was immediately established that led to the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of 11 sachets of suspected shabu.

The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 which was filed in court. (Jonathan Llanes)
