Extension of pork ban in Negros looms

EXTENSION of the 90-day ban of pork products that are coming into the province looms.

Provincial veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena also laments on the lack of a national policy complementing the local ban implemented in the province amidst the African Swine Fever (ASF) that causes deaths of pigs.

Decena explained that the province which is self-sufficient of pork supply should maintain ASF free.

He said that because of the threat of ASF, the swine industry has been affected especially the backyard pig raisers.

Decena encourages local consumers to patronize buying pork from backyard raisers.

Our local hog raisers have been affected of the low price of pork, Decena pointed out.

He also revealed that close monitoring of the airport and seaports has been observed by the Provincial ASF Task Force that have already confiscated and returned pork products to their respective areas of origin especially those from Luzon.

He said that LGUs are also encouraged to promote our locally made lechon.
