Iloilo City big infrastructure funds approved

THE Iloilo City Council approved on October 1 the supplemental budget for big infrastructure projects to house offices and improve services for public convenience.

Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked the City Council for the approval as he wanted to fast-track the construction works set to start by the year's end.

"The go signal of major projects is very timely as we highlighted the first 100 days in office. This means that we prioritize programs and projects for the people and general welfare," Treñas said.

These include the P300-million seven-story Legislative Building cum parking spaces for 100 cars. The multi-purpose facility will rise beside the Ker heritage building, behind City Hall. An initial P100 million was allotted from general budget.

The P38-million five-storey Iloilo City Action and Response (Icare) Center will rise at Gaisano's Iloilo City Center (ICC) along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district. The 25-year usufruct agreement for 375-square-meter site was signed September 2.

Icare will house the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, police stations, and fire stations.

The P10-million Icare satellite will be built in Barangay Calumpang, Molo.

The P20-million three-story warehouse for the City Government's documents, supplies, and equipment will be constructed in the property that used to be occupied by the Philippine Dental Association office in Molo district. (PR)
