Christmas in Baguio plans set

THE Baguio Tourism Council (BTC) has reconvened and will lead Yuletide festivities for the city.

The Christmas tree atop Session Road will be lighted on December 1 to signal the formal declaration of “An Enchanting Baguio Christmas” with synchronized street and park lights along the road.

BTC is led by Gladys Vergara De Vera and Anthony De Leon, and comprised of members from the private sector who have lined up month-long activities to enhance the celebration.

Creative director Ferdie Balanag has been tapped by BTC to assure quality and artistry for the month-long event.

The Baguio Christmas Fair, inspired by celebrations staged in European countries like Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, during the Christmas Season at the Rose Garden at Burnham Park will serve as the venue for creatively curated chalets to showcase the best of Christmas flavors and items.

Activities that appeal to children and families, as well as a line-up of performances, will be scheduled and staged at the park.

A Christmas Lights and Sounds Show will also be set at the Rose Garden with skillful, creative use of lights and sounds. Christmas tales will be told and re-told in keeping with the mood of the season.

Sports events are also lined up, like the Saka Rocker Music and Football Festival, a grass-roots organized Barangay Peace Cup, as well as a retrospective exhibit of photographs, documentaries, and memorabilia of athletes who have brought great inspiration and glory to the city.

Community-centered activities will also be prepared to experience the unique northern culture, with the simbang gabi soup kitchens designed to fill the Christmas air with sparkle and magic, and arts activities spread throughout the month to champion the city as a creative hub.

BTC is coordinating with the City Tourism Office as well as Councilor Elaine Sembrano for the finalization of plans for the December activity.
