Dismissed workers can get unemployment benefit payment

HAVE you been involuntarily separated from your work?

The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) advises to avail yourself a Certificate of Separation from Employment/Unemployment to avail an unemployment insurance.

Dole 7 Director Salome Siaton said this certificate is a primary requisite for the application for payment of unemployment insurance or involuntary separation benefit of the Social Security System.

“All employees including kasambahay and overseas Filipino workers who are covered by an unemployment insurance or involuntary separation benefit should apply for this DOLE certification,” Siaton advised.

She said only those who were separated or dismissed from work due to authorized causes will be granted the certification from the labor agency.

Authorized causes as grounds for dismissal from work would include: retrenchment to prevent losses; closure or cessation of operation of an establishment not due to serious losses or financial reverses; when the employee is suffering from a disease not curable within the period of six months and his/her continued employment is prejudicial to his/her health or to the health of his/her co-employees; installation by employer of labor-saving devices; redundancy; and impossible reinstatement of the employee to his/her former position.

Employees who are involuntarily separated may file their application for the certification at the Dole field and provincial office where the employer is located or where the employee resides.

Applicants must be able to present one valid identification card and a copy of the notice of termination or a duly notarized affidavit of termination of employment.

This Dole certification is an application requirement for payment of unemployment insurance or involuntary separation benefit. (CSL)
