Zamboanga City scouts for parking areas

THE City Government of Zamboanga is scouting for idle private lots that can be used for parking purposes outside the central business district in view of the very limited parking areas downtown as a result of the road clearing operations.

Assistant City Administrator for Operations Cesar Raz said one area suitable for parking zone is at Centro Pastoral, and initial talks have already been made with the Archdiocese of Zamboanga.

Raz said also considered for parking areas are the 1.7-hectare property of the Zamboanga City Water District in the west coast and the vacant lot at the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in the village of Divisoria in the east coast.

These areas may be far from the city proper but if they will be developed into a tourism spot well with proper sanitation and lights people will go there, he added.

Raz said another way to address the displaced parking areas is the proposal for the city government to purchase solar-powered buses that will service from distant parking areas to the city proper for free.

He said the Ang property (formerly the ice plant) which is more or less one hectare is also proposed for parking zone.

Talks have already been finalized with the Ang Family, who is willing to convert it into a parking area, he added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
