British, wife not taken to Basilan: police

AN OFFICIAL of the Philippine National Police has denied reports that a British and his wife seized in Zamboanga del Sur were taken to Basilan province.

Allan Arthur Hyrons, 70, and his Filipino wife, Wilma, were seized by six gunmen on October 4 from the resort of the couple in Alindahaw Village, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Colonel Rufino Inot, Basilan police director, denied reports circulating that the couple was taken to the province since “there was no information about their presence.”

Inot said he immediately deployed intelligence personnel to monitor all possible landing points upon learning about the incident in Zamboanga del Sur.

“We verified in the different municipalities and so far, (we have) negative information about that (they were taken to the province),” he added.

The Hyrons couple have just arrived at the family-owned resort when gunmen seized them.

They were forced to board on two waiting motorboats that sped off to different directions--one towards Lanao and the other to Pagadian City.

So far no group or individuals have claimed responsibility over the incident.

Meanwhile, Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur is offering a P1 million cash reward to anyone who could provide information that will unmask the suspects and lead to the immediate rescue of the couple. (SunStar Zamboanga)
