Gorres to thank UV for financial aid

Z Gorres returns to his former school, the University of the Visayas (UV), today, to give thanks for the financial aid given to him.

Gorres, 27, will be at the UV main campus this morning, at 10 a.m., to meet with UV assistant vice-president Joselito “Jiji” Gullas and give his gratitude for the financial assistance of the school.

“Z wants to meet with Mr. Gullas to thank UV for the support they have given him,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer in an interview yesterday.

Gullas personally handed UV’s assistance of P100,000 to Gorres during the fallen fighter’s return to Cebu City last Feb. 16.

Gorres suffered a subdural hematoma on the right side of his brain after his lopsided unanimous decision victory over Columbian banger Luis Melendez last Feb.13 at the Mandalay Bay House of Blues in Las Vegas. He was tagged with a wicked left punch that dropped him in the final seconds of the match, but Gorres was able to beat the 10-count and finish the fight. On his way out of the ring, after being declared the winner, the ALA star collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the University Medical Center and underwent an emergency brain surgery. Gorres’ hospital bills have totalled $562,000.

Gorres took up Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at UV but dropped out after his second year to pursue his professional boxing career.
