Burnham parking spaces set

PARKING spaces at the Burnham complex have been identified.

Councilor Mylen Yaranon said proposals for multi-level parking at Burnham Park are still being accepted but she announced definite locations for the envisioned facilities.

"So far, proposals are still being submitted, but nothing definite yet, what is sure, are the locations," Yaranon said.

She said the Ganza area has been set for public utility jeepneys and a taxi terminal, which is eyed to become a two-level parking building, while the areas of the old city auditorium will become a creative center with basement parking.

The Baguio Athletic bowl Tennis court area will be converted into a multi- level parking, maintaining a tennis court above it, she added.

A clamor to keep Burnham as an open space has been raised in the past administration, with Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat issuing statements on keeping Burnham Park as an open space, disallowing building of parking facilities.

Local advocates have likewise raised the same concerns with the group in the past, The Baguio We Want Forum, issuing protests to previous plans, saying the park's water table is shallow that it could not handle a multi-level parking lot.

Parking facilities for Burnham were presented by XY Fuji Elevators Philippines with All Asia Corporation, setting multi-level parking space proposals both at the Ganza parking area.

XY Fuji Elevators Philippines revealed plans bankrolled by Chinese partners for a five-level, 4,320-square-meter steel parking building that can accommodate 668 cars at one time, while All Asia Corporation presented a P400 million Public Private Partnership deal to city stakeholders comprised of a three-story steel structure that can accommodate 700 vehicles and serve as a common terminal for jeepneys, as well as a business venue for small and medium entrepreneurs.
