Cordillera cops finish internal security course

SOME 80 officers of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera successfully finished the 45-day Basic Internal Security Operations Course (Bisoc).

The course focuses on the efficient internal security operations for the suppression of insurgency and other serious threats to security in the region.

Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim Dickson, PRO-Cordillera director, pointed out the need for an additional effective force that would suppress the presence of insurgency in the far-flung areas of the Cordillera.

"Just like you, after graduating from the Philippine Military Academy in 1988 and joining the Philippine Constabulary then, I also underwent a training course similar to Bisoc designed to suppress insurgency. We have suffered losses and in fact in one of our encounters with the New People's Army, I was the only survivor, but with the modern training and facilities that you officers have undergone, we are positive that this will help you in performing your duties against internal threats in our region," Dickson said.

Internal security, or IS, is the act of keeping peace within the borders of a sovereign state or other self-governing territories, generally by upholding the national law and defending against internal security threats.

The Philippine National Police was directed to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which is authorized to make appropriate adjustments in its organization subject to the approval of the National Police Commission.

"These kinds of modern trainings that you have undergone is expected to aid you to counter not only insurgency but also in the fight against criminality, illegal drugs, and the maintenance of peace and order in the areas where you will be assigned. Make use of what you have learned to accomplish your missions," Dickson added.

Bisoc is an enhanced version of the 45-day Special Counter-Insurgency Operations Unit Training (Scout) designed to equip the new cops with the knowledge, attitude, skills, and values that make them more capable and skilled once they get assigned to the public safety forces.
