I WAS fascinated when I came to know that there would be a first hobby convention at the Baguio Country Club. Being a hobbyist myself, I know how passionate and creative these participants are. I have been a Barbie doll collector since the early 2000. I own more than a hundred dolls that are still in their original boxes, untouched. The collectible ones with certificates.

I used to still play with my dolls even when I was married and had kids. Maybe because I loved how fashionable Barbie’s are with all their beautiful, mix and match clothes, a wide array of tiny shoes and accessories.

My room literally had its four walls covered with shelves full of Barbie’s, Ken’s and Kelly’s. I had doll-sized automobiles, motorcycles, horses, swimming pools, dolphins and you name it. I had a lighted dollhouse especially built for them. Yes, all for my Barbie’s!

That was 19 years ago. Now, my dolls are just in big storage boxes since we transferred into a new home. Priceless they are! I bought Barbie’s that cost about 5,000.00 php years ago, most were bought by me in different places and some were gifts by relatives and friends from abroad.

The 1st North Hobby Expo was held last Sept 26 to 28 at the Cordillera Hall, Baguio Country Club with the following highlights: car and motor show, cosplay competition, JRock music festival, action air tournament with the Baguio Airsoft Club, exhibit and gaming booths, tabletop tennis, and also a fashion show by De Stijl Image Reinvented.

Looking forward to meeting more hobby enthusiasts in the coming years! Probably Nicole Hamada and I would have time to display and share our Barbie collection! Cheers! Photos by Michael Bactad, Ronald de Leon, Santi Ramos, and Osharé.
