Man shot dead while collecting loan payments

A 27-YEAR-OLD Indian national was shot dead early Friday morning, Oct. 11, 2019, in Sitio Ibo, Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City.

Cacandeep Singh, a resident of Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City, was on board his motorcycle while collecting loan dues from his clients in the area when an unknown assailant shot him three times.

According to Police Major Juan Capacio, Marigondon Police Station chief, the suspect might have been waiting for Singh.

Capacio said it is possible that the intention of the suspect was only to kill Singh and not to rob him since his money was intact.

The suspect fled toward the interior part of Sitio Ibo after shooting the victim, Capacio added.

“Di pud tulis (ang tuyo) kay naa ra ang iyang kwarta. Mahug ra gyud to nga revenge ug naa ba siyay nakaaway (It couldn’t be robbery because his money was not taken. It could be revenge by someone he had a conflict with),” Capacio said.

Capacio said they will coordinate with other Indian nationals to find out if the victim was able to share some information that could help in the investigation.

“Mao nay problema kay bisag daghan nakakita, wala may maningog. Kani gyud hinoong mga ingon ani (mga Indian national), wala gyud ni silay laing buhat kundi kana lang magpautang (A lot of people witnessed the incident, but no one is willing to talk. But we assume he’s in the loan business because that’s what most of the Indian nationals here do),” Capacio said.

The police chief said Singh has no criminal record in their area of responsibility. (from GCM of Superbalita Cebu/MVG)
