A MONTH into the rebate program, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) has released over P26 million to its overseas Filipino worker (OFW) members and their families.

According to Owwa administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, they have already provided rebates to more than 10,000 member-beneficiaries since the program began on September 10.

"Update po re OWWA Rebate Program as of 9 October 2019: 10,512 beneficiaries na po tayo. P26 million released na rin po," said Cacdac in his Twitter account (@HansLeoCacdac).

In actual amount, Owwa released P26,071,683.75 to its members and their families.

Back in September 10, Owwa began releasing the rebates to its long-time members in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 10801 or the Owwa Act.

Qualified beneficiaries of the rebate program are OFWs who have been members of Owwa for at least 10 years with at least five or more contributions made as of December 31, 2017; and OFW-member or his/her family that has not availed of any program or benefit from Owwa.

Qualified OFWs may be able to claim between P941.25 and P13,177.50 based on the number of their contributions while having the option to donate it to the Tuloy-Aral Project of Owwa, or to use as payment for the renewal of Owwa membership for OFWs who still have active employment contract abroad.

Owwa earlier allocated P1 billion for the rebate program to be distributed to 556,000 beneficiaries. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
