Police report less crimes in Zamboanga City

THE local police reported that the crime volume for the first nine months of this year is lower by 268 representing 5.46 percent decline compared to that of last year covering the same period.

Police Colonel Thomas Joseph Martir, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, in his report to the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) said they recorded 4,638 crimes from January to September this year, which is lower by 268, compared to the 4,906 crime incidents for the same period in 2018.

Martir attributed the decline in crime volume to the concerted efforts and advocacy against all forms of criminality of the 11 police stations under the ZCPO.

He said they have also registered 73.26 percent in the crime solution efficiency from January to September this year marking an increase of 3.86 percent compared to the 69.40 percent recorded in the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the police director said that only 21.76 percent of the total crime volume of 4,638 remain under investigation, which is lower by 5.11 percent than last year’s 26.87 percent.

He said the crime clearance efficiency for the first 10 months of this year also went up 78.24 percent, which is higher by 5.11 percent from 73.13 percent in 2018 covering the same period.

He added that the crime clearance efficiency are crime incidents with cases filed in court but the suspects remain at large. (SunStar Zamboanga)
