Python ‘rescued’ in Talisay

A RETICULATED python was found on the streets of Barangay Biasong, Talisay City on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019.

Residents in Barangay Biasong were alarmed when they noticed a snake in the street at around 11 p.m. last Thursday.

The python, which was 108.5 inches long, was later rescued by Anthony Abapo, focal person of Pooc Elementary School.

Abapo immediately turned the python over to the Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (TCDRRMO) the day after.

Alvin Santillana, TCDRRMO chief, said residents of the barangay who found the python had nothing to worry about as it is not poisonous.

But he added that the python was still considered dangerous because it has the ability to immobilize its prey by coiling it with its long body.

Santillana said none of the residents have claimed ownership of the snake.

“The snake was very aggressive. It looks like it’s very hungry,” said Santillana in Cebuano.

The snake was later turned over to the Talisay City Environment and Natural Resources Office (TCENRO) for proper documentation. / (FROM FMD OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / RSR )
