TO TRAVEL to new and exciting places is always in someone’s bucket list. Most people dream of going to top destinations around the world to learn new things or to simply embark on an adventure. But for starters, what if a book could take you to your dream destinations?
SunStar Weekend travel columnist Rachel Arandilla launched her first book last Oct. 5, with DCO Publishing, entitled “Postcards from Elsewhere.”
In the book, one gets to read about the writer’s experiences and journey in starting a new chapter of her life. The book is a travel anthology filled with her stories from her many travels around Asia, Europe and the United States. It tells over 25 stories about her encounters with different people around the globe. The book also features original artwork by Cebuana illustrator Celina Paredes, composed of acrylic paintings in broad brush strokes portraying daily life inspired by Rachel’s travels.
According to Rachel, she draws inspiration from writers like Pico Iyer, and P.S. I’m on my Way blogger Trisha Velarmino. Through her book, Rachel wanted to expound the horizons of everyone; that travel can teach one so many things and can make one a better person.
“Soak in everything. It’s not just about having great photos for Instagram. Soak in all the senses—tastes, smells, sounds, sights, touch—everything! Talk to people. Know their culture. Don’t just be an observer. Integrate yourself in the environment,” Rachel shared.
Celebrating the writer having achieved her dream of becoming a published author, Rachel’s friends and families were all present during the book launch held at KMC Solutions, Skyrise 4B, Cebu IT Park. Various limited edition merchandise were also sold during the event such as notebooks, postcards, bookmarks, tote bags and pouches. Everyone also enjoyed delicious refreshments paired with cold drinks.
This is DCO Publishing’s second published book. The first is a work of fiction published last year entitled “Brandy Pooh’s Time-Traveling Adventures Book One: The Legend of the Fourteen Shih Tzus” by Cebuana filmmaker Janice Y. Perez.
“Postcards from Elsewhere” is available through DCO Publishing’s official online bookstore at www.dcopublishing.com.
