THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors leaned on their dead-eye shooting from beyond the arc to stun the three-time defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, 71-62, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Even without their top perimeter threat, Froilan Mangubat, and reserve forward Kenneth Brillo, the Warriors still stung the Green Lancers from the outside as Magic Marata continued his torrid shooting, this time canning seven triples, en route to piling up 27 points.

His biggest shot was fittingly, a three-pointer, which kept UV at bay to pave the way for USC to claim the win and improve to 6-3 (win-loss).

The Warriors erected their largest lead of the game at 20, 66-46, after a three-pointer by Kurt Trangia at the onset of the fourth. However, USC went through a drought which UV exploited, scoring the next 14 points to pull to within six, 60-66, with still 1:08 left.

Marata though, doused the fire by making a three-pointer from the corner, before making two free-throws to secure the win for USC.

Jancork Cabahug led UV, which suffered its second loss in eight games, with 10 points.
