Candaba honors teachers

MORE than 1,000 active and retired teachers were honored by the local government of Candaba over the weekend as part of the celebration of World Teacher's Month.

A total of 1,045 public elementary and high school teachers and 51 retired teachers in town were gathered at the Municipal Trade Center here for live entertainment and raffle prizes.

Dance performances from Candaba West, North and East District and Paralaya National High School teachers also added fun to the celebration.

According to Mayor Rene Maglanque, the celebration aims to recognize the efforts of teachers as they perform their duty of educating the youth.

Maglanque expressed gratitude to the teachers for their “immeasurable sacrifices" to mold the youth into responsible citizens of the society.

“We cannot ever pay back all of the sacrifices and efforts of our teachers for each one of us here but we are hopeful that through this simple, although belated, celebration, we can be able to at least relieve their stress from work,” he said.

Maglanque also described the teachers as “molders of the future leaders.”

“Teachers play a huge role in the nation-building as they help mold the future leaders of the country. Without them, we cannot have the quality education we need to develop the country,” he said.

Department of Education Pampanga District Superintendent Leonardo “Ding" Zapanta thanked the local government for recognizing the value of educators in the community.

He disclosed that this town is only the second to celebrate World Teachers' Day after San Simon.

“This kind of activities encourage our teachers to do better knowing that their efforts and sacrifices are appreciated,” he said.
