Motorists cautioned of highway mishap

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - The Cordillera Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (CRDCC) has alerted all its units to prepare for the marked increase of motorists on major routes come Holy Week next month.

This was following the crashed of an ill-fated PJM Love Bus last Saturday, March 6, to an acacia tree after suffering mechanical failure along the stretch of Marcos Highway in the boundary of Tuba, Benguet and Pugo, La Union.

The fatalities and injured were pilgrims from Sta. Rosa City, Laguna, who were on their way to Baguio City for a day-long visit to several churches, which Christian devotees call “Visita Iglesia.”

The Cordillera police command said eight passengers died on the spot while four others succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

Victims were identified as Warlito Sayoco, Luisa Sarmiento Gasapo, Pamila Africa, Elueteria Reyes, Liberia Reyes, Mercidita Reyes, Virgina Ocampo and Isabelita Reyes while Ines Banas, Lydia Martin, a certain Boy and the other female fatality is still being identified. (Ma. Elena Catajan)
