Binalbagan mayor questions DILG rating on road clearing

BINALBAGAN Mayor Alejandro Mirasol has questioned the assessment made by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) with regards to the town's compliance with its memorandum for local government units (LGUs) to clear roads of obstruction.

The DILG said earlier that Binalbagan is the only LGU in Negros Occidental that has failed to comply with its memorandum.

Mirasol said the DILG officer, who was assigned to make the assessment in the Binalbagan, gave the town a passing rate of 80 percent.

The DILG gave a score of 88.3 percent to the Provincial Government for its road clearing operations, while Bacolod City got an 87 percent rating.

Mirasol said the local officials of Binalbagan did their best to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte's order to clear all illegal structures within the municipality, especially the ones occupying government-owned roads.

He said he is planning to meet with DILG-Negros Occidental Director lawyer Ferdinand Panes Monday, October 14, in order to discuss the issue.

Based on the DILG's report for the province, the cities of Bago, Kabankalan, San Carlos, Silay, and Victorias were given a rating of high compliance.

The cities of Himamaylan, Sagay, Sipalay, Talisay, La Carlota, and Bacolod were rated with medium compliance.

The municipalities of Moises Padilla, Murcia, Toboso, and Salvador Benedicto were rated with high compliance, while a rating of high compliance was given to the municipalities of Pulupandan, Calatrava, Candoni, Hinigaran, Ilog, Cauayan, Isabela, La Castellana, Manapla, and Pontevedra.

The towns of San Enrique, Valladolid, and EB Magalona were given a rating of low compliance.

A total of 97 LGUs in the country did not comply with the DILG's memorandum.
