THE Iloilo City Government is intensifying efforts to make the metropolis a prime destination for Meetings, Incentive travels, Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice).
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the City Hall has allotted funds for the purpose during the launching of the Iloilo Mice Campaign at Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district on October 10.
"To complement with the initiatives of the national government and all partners, we have to do what we can to promote Iloilo. The city is behind all your efforts. We will work with you together in this endeavor," Treñas said.
He said the P6 million was allocated this year for Mice Center, which opened at third floor of City Hall. This included P3.6 million for tourism promotions and investment program and P2 million for printing and publication of promotional materials. This was part of the supplemental budget approved by the City Council on October 1.
He added that P28 million for Mice projects, programs, and activities have been submitted for next year's budget.
Support also poured for the city's premier cultural celebration and religious festivity hailed as the country's best tourism event.
The City Government also allotted P15-million aid to Dinagyang tribes and all-related activities this year. The P10-million assistance to Dinagyang events will be allocated next year.
Iloilo Dinagyang 2020 in 360 degrees launched its 100 days countdown to the January 26 event at Festive Walk mall on October 10.
The booming tourism landscape that resulted to better opportunities for the people is a product of collaborative efforts of government, non-government, and private organizations, and investors coupled with proper urban planning.
"I affirm my commitment to helping Iloilo become the first choice Mice destination. Let us invite more people to come, hold their conventions, visit, discover, and experience our humble home where the past is always present, the City of Love," said Treñas. (PR)
