GIANT gatherings going to Iloilo City got a boost as SMX Convention Center plans a 4,000-seat facility within SM City complex in Mandurriao district.
Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat has pushed Iloilo City as Meeting, Incentives, Convention, and Exhibits or Mice destination.
"Meaning, events will be promoted here because of the already crowded capital cities. That is why I am very happy. SM will also open a bigger convention center to accommodate more guests," Mayor Jerry Treñas said.
"So, we will try to get as much Mice activities the reason why we invested on promotions. We want to push further this economic driver to provide jobs to our people," he added.
City Hall has allotted P6-million supplemental fund this year and P28-million budget next year for massive Mice promotions.
SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation recently opened 199-room Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo Hotel, adding accommodation availability in the metropolis.
The 3,500-seat Iloilo Convention Center (Icon) now holds the biggest capacity in one setting. (PR)
