Former senator Nene Pimentel in ICU

FORMER Senate president and democracy stalwart Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel Jr. is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital, according to his party's spokesperson.

Ron Munsayac, spokesperson and public information chair of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), called for prayers for the ailing senator in a tweet posted at past 7 p.m. Monday, October 14. 2019.

"We are humbly asking our friends and partymates in the @PDPLABAN to pray for the full & speedy recovery of our founder and Chairman Emeritus Tatay Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel, Jr. who is currently in the ICU," Munsayac posted.

Pimentel, 85, is also known as the Father of the Local Government Code for having principally authored Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991.

He founded the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) in February 1982 to oppose the then-ruling Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Pimentel is the father of Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, also a former Senate president. (MVI/SunStar Philippines)
