GIUMOL ni Mayor Edgardo Labella ang Cebu City Jail ad hoc committee para maoy mopaluag sa New Cebu City Jail sa Barangay Kalunasan diin nagpunsisok ang mga piniriso.
Gitudlo ni Labella isip chairman si City Attorney Rey Gealon ug iyang miyembro ang pangulo sa Integrated Bar of the Philipiines-Cebu City, Fiscal Raul Cristoria sa Regional State Prosecutors Office, Atty. Jerone Castillo, Atty. June Maratas, Councilor Dave Tumulak ug Public Information Officer Razel Cuizon.
Ang mayor nitahas sa ad hoc committee sa paglili sa Republic Act 10389 kun “ An Act Institutionalizing Recognizance as a Mode of Granting the Release of an Indigent Person in Custody as an Accused in a Criminal Case and for other Purposes” para maoy basehan sa mga motion nga ilang iduso ngadto sa korte.
“It has always been the desire of the Mayor to pursue social justice, this ad hoc committee is another step towards that direction as indigent prisoners will be extended pro bono legal assistance by the Cebu City Government for their recognizance or probation, leading to their temporary release and consequently decongest Cebu City’s jails,” padayag ni Gealon.
Matod ni Labella nga ilawom sa balaod, gitahasan ang Sangguninang Panlungsod ubos sa pagtugot sa mayor nga makaduso og motion ngadto sa korte labot sa mga kaso nga nalakip sa plea bargaining kun mga salaod nga “probationable”.
Samtang gipadayag sa mayor nga iyang hangyuon si Atty. Juril Patiño, kinsa anaa sa kustodiya sa City Jail, nga motabang sa decongestion program aron makagawas ang mga binilanggo, kinsang kaso nalakip sa plea bargaining. (PAC)
