Institutionalization of BLISTT pressed

BAGUIO City Councilor Mylen Yaranon stressed the need for the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) to be institutionalized to ensure the continuity of planning and direction amenable to the city and the municipalities involved.

In the weekly Talakayan sa Environment Code radio forum of the Baguio Regreening Movemen (BRM), Yaranon explained the need for the continuity to find measures on how to manage the urbanization of Baguio City and the neighboring municipalities under BLISTT.

"The concept of BLISTT should not be politicized but should really be institutionalized. And all municipalities should have someone in charge for BLISTT so that even if there would be changes in executive and legislative positions, this will still continue which is why everything should be in place for a BLISTT Governance," Yaranon said.

The National Economic Development Authority (Neda) Cordillera earlier funded the "Formulation of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) Infrastructure Master Plan."

The Project Development and Other Related Studies (PDRS) fund was called for the project in recognition of the increasing urbanization of the BLISTT as one of the identified primary growth centers of the region.

Based on the proposal of Baguio City Representative Marquez Go, BLISTT should become an authority, but most of the BLISTT mayors does not approve.

"What was placed there was that the BLISTT chairman will be appointed by the president, which the council disagrees due to the possibility that the appointee would not come from the Cordillera, which was one of the questions raised and which is being reviewed by Senator Richard Gordon," Yaranon said.
