94% Benguet roads cleared

NINETY-FOUR percent of major roads in Benguet province are cleared of obstruction, said Rufina Fegcan, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Benguet director, Monday, October 14.

As per validation, the 13 towns of Benguet gained 94 percent, which is equivalent to the 91 to 100 percent bracket set by the National Government which indicates high compliance.

Meanwhile, 81 to 90 percent means mid compliance, 71 to 80 percent is low, and 71 as below compliance with a failed mark.

The provincial validation team is composed of the DILG, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, members of the media and civil society group. It was created to validate the road clearing efforts down to the municipal level.

Data show that the towns of Kabayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, Mankayan, Tuba and Buguias got 100 percent or high compliance, followed by Bokod and Tublay with 95 percent.

Bakun, Sablan, and Atok had 90 percent, while Itogon and La Trinidad got 80 percent.

"For LGUs (local government units) to continue what they started since they started well, the challenge lies especially those who got lower than 100 percent to look into this indicators that can still be improve. For example, the rehabilitation of roads and those who have not accomplished municipal ordinances (on anti-road obstruction)," said Fegcan.

She also commended the LGUs for their cooperation.

She said the town of Itogon is planning to act on erosion along local roads, while La Trinidad doubling its effort against guerilla style of illegally parking to attain 100 percent mark.

Fegcan said the DILG will be monitoring quarterly the compliance of LGUs.
