THE public schools in Talisay City, Cebu have no classes on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 as the city is celebrating its fiesta.

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. issued an order on Monday, Oct. 14, cancelling the classes in daycare, elementary, secondary and college levels.

Gullas’s declaration would give students a chance to join in any activity prepared by the City for the feast day of Santa Teresa de Avila. Officials at the Department of Education Talisay City Division agreed with the mayor’s decision.

As to the private schools, Gullas said the decision to cancel classes would depend on their respective management.

“Please take this opportunity to participate in our fiesta activities. I suggest: take this time to visit the church to pray to God and thank St. Teresa for all the blessings you have received this year,” Gullas said.

At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will hold a pontifical mass at the Santa Teresa de Avila Church.

In the evening, rock band Parokya ni Edgar will hold a free concert at the Talisay City Central School, which has an open field that can accommodate around 10,000 persons.

Mikki Aznar, tourism department officer-in-charge, urged the concertgoers to go to the venue early as the police officers would block the entrance if the place is already full.

Pregnant women, senior citizens and minors are not allowed in the concert venue.

Bags, umbrellas, hats, sharp objects, bottles of liquor, lighters, cigarettes, firearms and illegal drugs will be confiscated by the police.

Last Sunday, Oct. 13, the City held its Halad Inasal Festival. Different schools participated in the street-dancing and ritual showdown categories. (From FMD of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
