THE 1986 Siargao Waveriders rode the sizzling performance of Arturo Mata to defeat the 1990 Titans, 72-68, in the Seniors division of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Club (NABC) 2019 Cebu City Mayor’s Cup at the USC North Campus gym on Sunday, October 13, 2019.
Mata had 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to help the Waveriders tally their sixth win in as many games and finish the elimination round as the top seed.
In other games, former pro Lou Regidor had 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to push the 1985 Legends past the 1982 Golden Warriors. Louie Lepiten also helped the 1987 Bro to a 48-38 win over the Bai 1991 with his 18 markers.
Over in Division 1, the 1997 Ronins downed the 1995 Pirates, 68-64, as Jake Saturinas fired in 23 points. The 1999 Niners defeated the 1996 Chubbies, 62-52, behind the play of Michael Ogdoc who had 15 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Meanwhile, James Lu had 25 points, five boards and five assists to lift the 1994 Bulldogs over the Sipat 1998, 87-77.
In Division 2, Charles Parrotina had 17 points and 10 boards in the 2001 Shipmen’s 75-64 win over the 2002 Lions. The 2004 Rebels also trounced the 2003 Stallions, 69-55, behind Xander Mata’s 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four swats.
And finally in Division 3, the 2008 Flyboys beat the 2007 Waybus, 77-61, while the 2010 Pioneers took down the 2009 Legacy, 69-55.
The playoffs of the USC NABC begins this Friday, October 18, at the same venue. (SunStar Cebu)
