CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella has issued notices of termination against five members of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) Board of Directors following disatisfication from a majority of the water utility's consumers over their services for the past few months.
Given notices are MCWD present chairman Joel Mari Yu; former Cebu City Councilors Procopio “Coping” Fernandez and Augustus "Jun" Pe Jr.; former City Attorney Ralph Sevilla and lawyer Cecile Adlawan, who serves as board secretary.
In his letter to the five officials, Labella said he has ordered their termination following complaints from MCWD's consumers over their present service which has prompted local government units in Metro Cebu and the Cebu Provincial Government to issue resolutions expressing their disatisfaction to MCWD's current service.
"It is for this widespread dissatisfaction over the services of MCWD that I am constrained to terminate your services as Director," Labella said, in his letter.
Labella also attached a letter from the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), who gave their blessing to the city mayor to initiate the termination of the five board members.
In his letter to Labella dated October 1, LWUA acting administrator Jeci Lapus said his office interposes no objection to the former's plan to remove the incumbent MCWD officials as it is consistent to Section 11 of Presidential Decree 198 or the Local Water District law.
Their services are considered terminated as of today, October 15, 2019. (SunStar Cebu)
