THE Cebu Pink Paddlers Dragon Boat Team defied the odds and bagged a bronze medal in the 2019 Buglasan Dragonboat Race in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019.

The team, which is composed of breast cancer survivors and advocates, clocked in 1 minute and 13.04 seconds in the final heat to pocket a bronze medal in the 200-meter women’s division.

Team Mizuchi of Dumaguete City finished first with a time of 1:10.06 while Bandits came second in 1:10.46.

“We have 18 breast cancer survivors on our team and 10 advocate paddlers who competed in Buglasan Dragonboat,” said head coach Christian Ian Sy.

The medal finish of the Cebu Pink Paddlers Dragonboat Team came timely as the month of October is considered as a National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Being part of the race is an achievement already as we inspire and spread awareness to the community that we are stronger than cancer,” read part of the team’s post on social media.

The Cebu Pink Paddlers made it to the championship heat after finishing with a second-best time of 1:13:04 and booted out the Redblades in the semis.

Sy said the team plans to compete next in the Cebu Dragonboat Fiesta in December. (RSC)
