Youth official killed in gun attack

AN OFFICIAL of the youth sector was killed in a gun attack in a remote area of Zamboanga del Sur province, the police reported Tuesday, October 15.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday, October 13, in Barangay Marangan, a far-flung village in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez said the fatality was identified as Rodel Alpeche, 19, the Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson of the village of New Carmen in Sominot town.

She said a concerned citizen, who thought Alpeche met an accident, found the victim lying in a pool of blood beside his motorcycle.

Alpeche was rushed to a hospital in nearby Mahayag town but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, who discovered the youth official sustained multiple gunshot wounds. (SunStar Zamboanga)
