Kananga village councilor shot dead

CAR-RIDING gunmen killed Tuesday, October 15, a village councilor in Kananga, Leyte.

The victim was identified as Rene Superior, 41, married and councilor of Barangay Libongao, Kananga town.

Responding policemen from Kananga Municipal Police Office, led by Major Ariel Salarda, found the victim already lying face down, with blood on the asphalt road next to his crashed motorcycle when they arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Libongao.

Police said the victim was shot several times by unidentified gunmen and was brought by responding Kananga Rescue Unit to Kananga Municipal Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Sharon Awit, attending physician.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim, while traveling the national road on board his motorcycle, was shot by gunmen who were onboard a white Sedan.

The gunmen immediately fled after shooting the victim.

Police said the victim was a rebel returnee and allegedly served as member of a private armed group during the May 2019 national and local elections.
