THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental is set to release new suggested retail prices (SRPs) of basic and prime goods among establishments in the province.
Romel Amihan, senior trade and industry development specialist of DTI-Negros Occidental, said they received a memorandum from the agency’s central office Tuesday, October 15, regarding the new SRPs among selected basic necessities and prime commodities effective September 30 this year.
Amihan said copies of the new SRPs will be distributed through the price monitoring team.
“Establishments in the province especially in Bacolod City should comply with the new SRPs,” he said, adding that erring establishments may be charged of profiteering.
Based on the memorandum, there are price increases among selected canned sardines, noodles, coffee refill and three-in-one, processed canned meat, condiments, toilet soap.
While, prices of selected bottled waters decreased, it said, adding that the price adjustments are mainly due to the rising cost of raw materials, packaging materials and safeguard duty being imposed.
Basic necessities under DTI’s monitoring include products like soap, milk, coffee, salt, bread and sardines.
Examples of prime commodities, on the other hand, are noodles and all kinds of canned goods except sardines.
The new SRPs for canned sardines in tomato sauce range from P13.25 to P17.25 depending on brand and net weight.
For milk, condensed costs P28 to P72, evaporated costs P21 to P57 while the prices of powdered milk range from P43.50 to P73.30 also depending on brand and net weight.
For coffee, the new SRPs for 25 to 50 grams of refill coffee range from P16.95 to P39.40 while three-in-one original costs P4.10 to P7.85 per 17 to 33 grams of various brands.
Other basic necessities, bread costs P21.50 to P35; instant noodles - P6.45 to P7.75; salt - P3.55 to P23.55; detergent soap - P16.35 to P21; bottled water (distilled) - P11 to P85; purified water - P6 to P19.50; mineralized water - P6 to P72; and candles - P29.75 to P115 depending on brand and net weight.
For prime commodities, the new SRPs of meat loaf range from P16.50 to P19.80; corned beef - P26 to P32; and beef loaf - P15.75 to P24.90.
Condiments including vinegar costs P6.75 to P14.95; patis - P9.90 to P25.75; soy sauce - P9.20 to P17.40; toilet soap - P18 to P40.50; and batteries - P39.95 to P172 also depending on brand and net weight.
The DTI, in the same memorandum, said all premium brands of canned sardines and processed milk in tetra pack were excluded in the SRP bulletin.
Saba Philippines Sardines is included as flanker brand of Saba sardines, it said, adding that the new SRP of 60 grams of Safeguard soap will take effect on December 4 this year.
